Are you in search of an easy and convenient way to make some extra needed money? Then you should consider Craigslist. You may be thinking, isn’t that the personal ads site? Well, that is indeed one service provided by the site, but Craigslist is much more than a site to meet your future mate. If this is your impression of the site, then you should reevaluate your opinion because you may be missing out on an additional source of revenue.
Craigslist is a centralized network of online communities that features sections such as classified ads, housing, community activities and items for sale that serves over 570 communities in 50 countries. Given the number of communities Craigslist serves, there is a high probability that a community near you is included. If so, then you have an opportunity to make extra needed money selling your unwanted stuff.
You may be thinking, isn’t that what eBay does? Why should I use Craigslist? Of course you can sell most anything on eBay. The eBay format is ideal for certain types of merchandise, but for some larger items, such as furniture, I believe Craigslist is an easier, more convenient option. The primary reason I prefer Craigslist for selling these larger items is because the prospect of figuring out how to ship these items seems daunting. Craigslist provides you with the opportunity to sell your items to people within your community, so you do not need to ship the items. You can make arrangements with the buyer to either pick up the items or you drop them off, which is a huge convenience especially for these larger items.
eBay does have tools to help you assess the shipping charges, but in my opinion, actually shipping the items may be more hassle than it is worth. I do not know about you, but when I want to unload some old furnishings, I do not want to spend my entire weekend trying to figure out how to do it. I want the process to be as painless as possible, which was my experience with Craigslist.
Recently I wanted to sell a bedroom set. I had no prior experience with Craigslist, so I spent a few minutes perusing the site to determine how it worked. It seemed simple enough. Within minutes, I had taken pictures of my furniture and posted an ad on Craigslist. I could not believe how efficient the process was. By week end, I had multiple offers and made arrangements with the winning buyer to pick up the furniture by the following week.
I was astounded at how easy it was to make some extra needed money with Craigslist. Of course you can sell most anything on Craigslist, not just furniture, but I believe Craiglist’s competitive advantage over eBay is for these larger items that a buyer may want to view in person prior to purchasing and that are more difficult to ship. So next time you are contemplating selling unwanted stuff, especially if it is difficult to ship, you may want to consider utilizing your local Craigslist site.
